About the team
The School of Humanities offers a rich teaching and research environment spanning the disciplines of Philosophy, Classics and Ancient History, History, English and Cultural Studies and European Languages and Studies. As well as undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the school supports an active research program.
The Discipline of Philosophy offers postgraduate and undergraduate programs in analytic philosophy, broadly construed. The Discipline of Philosophy is committed to developing research and teaching collaborations with other disciplines both within the School of Humanities and across the University.
About the opportunities
As the Theresa Symons Fellow you will, under the limited direction of the Head of School of Humanities and the Discipline Chair of Philosophy, make a contribution to the discipline of Philosophy through research and teaching.
You will be expected to teach one upper level unit in Philosophy each year, and may have the opportunity to supervise Honours students.
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
- PhD in Philosophy (or soon to be completed PhD in Philosophy)
- Ability to independently formulate a competitive fellowship application
- Ability to develop, coordinate and teach undergraduate units in Philosophy
- Ability to independently formulate and pursue research questions and conduct high-quality research
- Experience in independently and/or collaboratively writing high-quality and high-impact manuscripts, and in the oral presentation of results
- Ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels, and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity principles
- Ability to supervise Honours students
- Motivation and commitment to contribute to the academic environment of the School of Humanities and the discipline group of Philosophy.
