  • Play a pivotal role in managing and auditing data across various sectors.
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 4 years.
  • Base salary range (Level 8): $106,775– $116,709 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI) is an independent, leading Australian marine research organisation. We are a collaboration of state, federal and academic entities that deliver large-scale, long-term and world-class research. Our projects, publications and consultations help governments, industry and the wider community to make informed decisions about the management of Western Australia’s marine estate.

WAMSI’s vision is to be the trusted independent facilitator, broker and advocate for marine science research that builds environmental, social and economic value for Western Australians.

The Research Specialist will provide support to the CEO and Research Director for WAMSI projects. This includes assistance in provision of key deliverables to WAMSI’s funder, the Western Australian Government.

 About the opportunity

As the appointee you will be responsible for completing strategic projects as recommended by the WAMSI Board, CEO and Research Director.  You will respond to a range of diverse enquiries using expertise and judgement to independently analyse and solve problems and will actively engage stakeholders to understand strategic issues and priorities for marine science in Western Australia.

You will fulfil data management tasks for various programs, develop baseline information management audits for projects or regions, complete audits of historic and current data assets held across different marine sectors, including industry, government and academia. You will develop summaries of data audit results and processes to facilitate discussions around shared data analytics, assist in acquisition of data across different regions, and, supervise program contracts associated with data management.

 About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • PHD is highly desirable
  • Extensive relevant experience in developing science plans based on stakeholder engagement and synthesis of previous information.
  • Extensive relevant experience in facilitating multi-organisation science projects, with considerable experience in the marine sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including report writing and providing presentations.

 Note:

Current “C” class driver’s licence is required by the successful applicant.

Occasional interstate travel may be required.

Occasional travel within the state may be required.

Occasional field work may be required.

Some after-hours work may be required.
