School of Molecular Sciences

  • Support Agricultural research by providing access to cutting-edge plant growth equipment.
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for three years.
  • Base salary range: $74,450 – $79,085 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

This position is based within the School of Molecular Sciences, housed in the Bayliss Building, where research, undergraduate and postgraduate education span the fields of chemistry, chemical biology, human, microbial, and plant biochemistry, molecular biology and molecular genetics, materials, nanotechnology, omics technologies, synthetic biology, and systems biology.

About the opportunity

  • Provide plant growth, culture and genetics services and associated general laboratory support to clients of The WA Node of the Australian Plant Phenomics Network.
  • Administering and operating a controlled-environment plant growth and genetics facility, including autoclaves and wash-up equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with the regulations of the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator and the implementation of Centre operating procedures. You will help coordinate facility bookings, maintain records, ensure supplies of plant growth materials, and maintain seed collections.

About you

  • Certificate in Laboratory Techniques or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Considerable relevant laboratory experience at an appropriate level.
  • Experience of plant growth, controlled environment facilities, and sterile culture.
  • Experience in the management of a growth facility operating under OGTR regulations.
  • Well-developed organisational skills and ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines.
