  • Base salary range: $80,243 – $88,940 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The Australian Herbicide Resistance Initiative (AHRI) is a national research and communication team based at The University of Western Australia. AHRI research focuses on crop and weed science, and herbicide resistance in the Australian grains industry, having received major investment from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC). AHRI is part of a new GRDC national ‘Weed Management Initiative (WMI)’. To fulfil this, we conduct research and extension to encourage sustainable cropping and weed control across Australia.

About the opportunity

  • Provide a high level of assistance to researchers on projects related to the management of weeds and herbicide resistance in Australian cropping systems.
  • Responsible for much of the glasshouse research component of the Weed Management Initiative
  • Provide technical support to the Herbicide Resistance Testing service, maintain the AHRI spray laboratory and generally, support AHRI research.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in agriculture or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Substantial experience in maintaining glasshouse/pot experiments on herbicides and weeds.
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet and email.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team.
