  • Base salary range: Level A, $80,520– $108,362p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering within the School of Engineering at UWA, under the supervision of Prof Brendan Kennedy. The group works in the area of biomedical optics and, specifically, on the development of advanced imaging systems for use in a range of clinical applications.

In addition to biomedical optics, the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering performs world-leading research in areas such as microelectronics, control systems and signal processing. This is complemented by excellent research in biomedical engineering performed in the Department of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering and the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering.

About the opportunity

  • Conduct research in biomedical optics, developing novel imaging techniques for biomedical applications in collaboration with surgeons, pathologists, and BRITElab colleagues.
  • Focus on designing and testing hardware and software aspects of the optical techniques, working closely with clinical teams to ensure their suitability for biomedical applications.
  • Based within BRITElab at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, you will engage in hands-on development and testing in a clinical environment.

About you

  • A PhD in a relevant field.
  • Research background in biomedical optics and preferably in optical coherence tomography, optical coherence elastography and/or other imaging modalities.
  • Evidence of a strong ability in at least one of the following research areas:  biomedical optics, biophotonics, elastography, medical imaging, microscopy.
  • Strong research publication record.
  • Supervision or mentoring of honours and Masters students.
