  • Support students from equity backgrounds to succeed at university by providing targeted academic skills support.
  • Full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment on a fixed term basis to 31/12/2025.
  • Base salary range: $100,524 – $111,534 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The Student Equity and Success teams focus on ensuring access, support, and enrichment for all students, fostering an inclusive student experience through academic and co-curricular programs. They coordinate the First Year Experience and oversee the Student Access and Participation Framework, which promotes local ownership and accountability in empowering students to aspire to, achieve, and thrive at university. Their initiatives help remove barriers and enhance student success, particularly for equity cohorts and those entering via alternative pathways.

The Student Success team leads the Academic Skills Centre and delivers programs that build students’ study, writing, communication, English, STEM, and research skills. Through workshops, drop-ins, online sessions, and interactive resources, they support students at key transition points, such as first-year students and those identified as at risk. Their work fosters learning communities and provides tailored support for diverse student backgrounds, ensuring all students have the tools to succeed at UWA.

About the opportunity

  • Facilitate student learning and skills development activities across the University's academic disciplines as part of the Academic Skills Centre.
  • You will primarily focus on students from low SES backgrounds, from Rural, Regional and Remote areas, and Indigenous students.
  • Liaise with stakeholders such as Student Equity and the School of Indigenous Studies, you will help to ensure these cohorts receive targeted support to excel in their studies.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent experience in academic skills development.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively support students in developing the academic skills essential for success at the tertiary level, including writing, research, and study strategies.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by students from equity backgrounds, including those entering university through alternative pathways.
  • Experience using online learning tools and digital resources to enhance student learning, including the development of self-directed materials and workshop facilitation.
