  • Part-time (0.5 FTE) appointment on a fixed term basis for 5 years as a secondment from substantive UWA role.
  • Base salary range: Level E, $222,129 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.
  • An additional responsibility allowance will apply

About the area

The Defence and Security Institute (DSI) aims to unify and focus UWA’s expertise and build partnerships in defence and security research, policy, engagement, and education.

UWA DSI’s aims to unite and advance UWA’s capability to be a leader in higher education defence contributions to address Western Australian, Australian and regional defence and security challenges through research, collaborative engagement, and the provision of education and workforce training.

About the opportunity

  • Provide leadership of the DSI’s strategy and for leading prioritisation and execution of strategy.
  • Work with key partners internally and externally to grow capability and build support for world-class research, education and policy leadership in relation to defence and national security.
  • Drive the next phase of development of the DSI and determine its strategic development for the future.

About you

  • PhD or equivalent academic standing, with extensive relevant experience and credibility in a defence, policy or STEM-related field
  • Leadership and clear vision: ability to articulate clear vision and secure commitment to that vision; to initiate and manage change; to inspire colleagues; to promote teamwork; demonstrated integrity and fairness.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage senior external stakeholders in government, industry, and the Australian Defence Forces.
  • Personal effectiveness/self-management: time, pressure, flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to own development.
