  • Contribute to innovative coastal carbon research at the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre.
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
  • Base salary range: Level A, $83,499 – $112,371 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The School of Biological Sciences is a large, multidisciplinary School with over 80 high-calibre staff delivering world-class education and research programs to approximately 600 undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students and is responsible for the supervision of about 100 PhD students. The School is research-intensive with expertise in the disciplines of Computational Biology, Ecology & Conservation, Evolutionary Biology, Neuroscience and Science Communication.

About the opportunity

  • A research-only postdoctoral role at UWA Oceans Institute, focused on coastal blue carbon, based at the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre in Perth.
  • Work within a diverse team of researchers and students studying coastal ecosystems, supervised by Dr. Pessarrodona, Dr. Filbee-Dexter, and Prof. Wernberg.
  • Develop cost-effective methodologies to accurately quantify blue carbon export, with limited supervision.

About you

  • PhD in relevant field of study or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Proven track record in high-quality blue carbon research, including peer-reviewed publications and the ability to conduct, synthesise, and report reviews independently.
  • Strong data analysis capabilities, including curating and interpreting large datasets, and meeting deadlines and reporting requirements effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with excellent verbal and written communication skills suited to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated engagement in team, school, and university activities, with a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and positive relationships with staff and students.

Note: A current “C” class driver’s licence will be required by the successful applicant.
