Research Associate (Archaeology)

  • Assist the ARC project meet its outcomes, based at UWA with set days at the WA Shipwrecks Museum in Fremantle.
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 1 year, 8 months.
  • Base salary range: Level A, $83,499 – $112,371 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The candidate will work with project investigators at UWA in the Disciplines of Archaeology, History, Design, and Forensic Anthropology.

The project team is a multidisciplinary team of museum workers, archaeologists, historians and scientists.

About the opportunity

  • Assist with accessing and organising museum catalogue data, contribute to digital visualisation and website development, and support PhD students and project administration including budgeting and Microsoft SharePoint updates.
  • Work closely with curatorial staff at WA Shipwrecks Museum, liaise with the digital team and Head of Maritime Heritage, and report weekly to the Project Executive Management Team.
  • Update scoping reports on VOC collections, map VOC encounters and legacies in Australia, and apply expertise in museum database analysis and interoperability to advance the project's goals.

About you

  • PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline.
  • Ability to understand different digital platorms used to organise museum collections.
  • An understanding of VOC cultural and archival materials held globally.
  • Support development of online and digital environments for research outcomes.
  • High-level research in the analysis of digital information about museum and archival collections.
