About the area
UWA is undergoing a significant transformation, enhancing its approach to risk, integrity, and compliance to align with its future ambitions. As part of this, the Risk, Integrity, Safety, and Compliance (RISC) division is expanding and redefining roles to strengthen best-practice frameworks and foster a proactive risk management and compliance culture.

RISC oversees the University’s policy, risk management, and compliance frameworks, driving enterprise-wide risk integration and a strong culture of integrity. Its remit includes health, safety & wellbeing, enterprise risk, integrity & standards, internal audit, policy & compliance, and information governance.

The newly established Policy & Compliance team will play a key role within RISC, helping to lift UWA’s policy and compliance maturity. This team reflects a structured and coordinated approach to policy development and compliance, reinforcing UWA’s commitment to effective risk management.

About the opportunity

  • Lead the development, implementation, and management of university-wide policy and compliance frameworks to ensure clarity, consistency, and regulatory alignment.
  • Oversee compliance monitoring and reporting, advising senior leadership on legislative changes, obligations and strategic compliance management.
  • Provide expert advice on the development and maintenance of University policies and lead a team of policy and compliance advisors providing training and support to stakeholders across the University.

About you

  • You will have a tertiary qualification in law, governance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in policy development and compliance management within complex institutions, preferably in higher education.
  • Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements impacting Australian universities, including TEQSA and government frameworks.
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to mentor teams and build relationships across all levels.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Special Requirements

  • A current National Police Clearance Certificate.
