About the area
College Services provides academic administration and operational and technical support services to the University’s schools, including Heads of School, academic staff, and research students.
The Safety and Operations team within Technical Services delivers professional WHS expertise across UWA’s research and teaching portfolio. With a focus on best practice, risk management, and legal compliance, the team supports the implementation of safe systems of work in alignment with university policies and legislation.
About the opportunity
- Provide WHS advice and develop localised safe work procedures to support staff and students in varied academic environments.
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and university safety systems by supporting the use of facilities, equipment, and processes.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to foster a proactive safety culture and ensure operational risks are effectively managed.
About you
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or demonstrated equivalent competency.
- Strong ability to assess hazards and implement practical controls across a range of working environments with proven experience in workplace health and safety, including risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
- Applied knowledge in at least one of the following would be advantageous: laboratory safety, engineering workshops, hazardous substances, or fieldwork/journey planning.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders and deliver effective safety training and advice.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with sound judgment and initiative
