About the area
The School of Human Sciences is a large multidisciplinary school with research and teaching focused on better understanding what it is to be human, from our structure, function, development and genetics, to adaptation, performance and evolution. The School is situated on the banks of the Swan River in Perth.
The School of Human Sciences was formed in 2017 as an amalgamation of the School of Anatomy, Physiology & Human Biology and the School of Sports Science, Exercise and Health. The School is one of the largest in the University and makes a significant contribution to the BSc majors in Anatomy and Human Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Science and Sports Science. The School also contributes to medical, dental and paramedical education in all tertiary institutions within Western Australia.
About the opportunity
- Contribute to a major program of translational research aimed at improving health outcomes for extremely preterm infants, working within a large transdisciplinary team using both ovine pregnancy models and human infant samples.
- Undertake hands-on research within the Preclinical Intensive Care Research Unit (PICRU) and affiliated laboratories, including surgical models, physiological, histological and molecular analyses, with a key focus on the effects of chronodisruption on lung and immune outcomes.
- Work under the guidance of senior academics while developing increasing research independence, contributing to publications, study coordination, governance, meetings, and the broader collegial life of the University.
About you
- Completed 4 years of tertiary study or equivalent qualifications and experience and hold a PhD in academic field relevant to the discipline.
- Experience in working with ovine models and expertise in surgical techniques.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, problem solve and work productively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity principles.
