About the area

The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) is a high‑profile WA State funded joint venture between Curtin University and The University of Western Australia. Established in 2009, ICRAR is one of the largest astronomy institutions in Australia and a leading national contributor to the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Project.

The Astrophotonics Group at ICRAR specialises in the design, development and testing of advanced photonic systems used across radio astronomy, optical astronomy and space science. With core expertise in stabilised optical-frequency and microwave-frequency transfer, the group brings together world‑class researchers and engineers in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

About the opportunity

  • Lead the end‑to‑end assembly, testing and verification of advanced photonic and electronic subsystems for the SKA‑Mid Frequency Distribution System.
  • Oversee and enhance inventory, calibration and compliance processes, ensuring full traceability and readiness for international audit requirements.
  • Work closely with engineers, researchers and project managers to deliver critical components for a globally significant scientific instrument.

About you

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a technical or manufacturing role, with responsibility for assembly, integration and testing within complex projects.
  • Ability to work independently and provide specialist advice.
  • Experience with inventory systems and stock control processes.
  • Strong attention to detail in tracking calibration logs, product shelf life, and stock levels.
  • Experience conducting assembly and factory acceptance testing in collaboration with the quality assurance manager, ensuring compliance with international standards.
