  • Base salary range: Level B, $118,150– $139,812p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

FutureLab is a partnership between Woodside Energy and UWA designed to co-create solutions that protect the integrity and safety of Woodside’s assets, enhance decommissioning outcomes, advance additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping of new technologies, and develop lower-carbon innovations that position Woodside to thrive through the energy transition.

FutureLab has an established and dedicated team of research academics providing support to Woodside across multiple engineering disciplines. A key component of this research involves additive manufacturing. Research in the School also spans a wide range of engineering disciplines, with groups often comprising multi- and transdisciplinary researchers who work with industry to produce outcomes with impact.

The TechWorks Laboratory is a dedicated facility based in the School of Engineering (Crawely Campus) to conduct prototyping research and explore advances in additive manufacturing technology. 

About the opportunity

  • Lead and support innovative FutureLab research through metal 3D printing, materials characterisation, prototype development, and high‑quality research outputs aligned with university and industry goals.
  • Manage and advance metal additive manufacturing operations, including equipment oversight, job coordination, user training, and long‑term strategy development.
  • Supervise and support students and research staff, foster collaboration between academia and industry, and contribute to funding proposals, publications, and professional activities.

About you

  • PhD or an equivalent in relevant field (e.g. materials engineering, physical metallurgy, corrosion).
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing of metals, especially with respect to powder bed fusion.
  • Extensive operational knowledge and hands-on experience of laser powder bed fusion systems.
  • Good understanding to the materials science of metals including microstructural and mechanical property characterisation.
  • Proven track record of engagement with research and delivery of high quality research outputs.
  • Experience in supervising and working with honours, postgraduate research projects and/or the co-supervision of PhD students.
