  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for two years.
  • Base salary range: $95,231 – $100,643 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

This position is based within the Rare Disease Genetics and Functional Genomics Group and Preventive Genetics Group at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and is part of the UWA Centre for Medical Research.

The groups investigate the genetic causes of muscle diseases. The Laboratory’s research focuses on disease gene discovery, development of therapies, improved molecular diagnostics and prevention of genetic disorders through preconception and newborn screening.

About the opportunity

  • Support collaborative research projects including work aimed at uncovering the genetic basis for rare neurogenetic diseases, in particular neuromuscular diseases.
  • Perform analyses of next generation sequencing datasets, interpret the results, design and conduct experiments to validate findings from NGS datasets and write manuscripts.
  • Provide input into the planning, development and initiation of research designs and protocols and report findings.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Relevant bioinformatics and computational biology research experience at an appropriate level.
  • Extensive molecular biology and laboratory experience.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines.
