About the area
College Services provides academic administration and technical support services to the University’s schools, including Heads of School, academic staff and research students. The team is committed to providing effective and efficient services in support of the Schools’ and University’s strategic objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement and best practice.
Technical Services provides discipline specific, applied knowledge and skill sets to support UWA’s teaching and research goals in unison with our academic staff. This team of practitioners focuses on high performance outcomes, compliance and contributing to a pragmatic safety culture via the implementation of safe systems of work. The team operates across a broad portfolio including teaching, fieldwork support, laboratory management, instrument/equipment stewardship, research training/design/optimisation and analysis, program coordination, and workshop design, manufacture and repair.
About the opportunity
- Lead and shape the University’s Technical Services function, delivering high-quality, safe and innovative support for teaching and research across all Schools.
- Drive University-wide strategy, planning and continuous improvement for technical facilities, influencing key decisions and resource priorities.
- Provide senior leadership to a large, multidisciplinary team, enhancing service delivery, capability and the overall student experience.
About you
- Proven experience leading large, complex teams in technical, laboratory or operational environments at a strategic level.
- Strong track record in developing and implementing organisational strategy, operational plans and service improvements.
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement, consultation and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience preparing high-quality reports and advice on complex issues.
- Demonstrated ability to drive performance, build capability and foster a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement.

- Current satisfactory AFP National Police Check.

- Some after-hours work or weekend work may be required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Willingness to register as UWA’s Principal Funeral Director with WA Attorney General’s Office and hold other similar regulatory or compliance-based roles as may be required from time to time.
