The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) provides strategic leadership and oversight of the University's research enterprise, including research policy, postgraduate education, research quality and impact, research infrastructure, industry engagement, intellectual property and commercialisation. The portfolio supports world-class research that delivers meaningful impact locally, nationally and internationally.

About the opportunity

This is a rare leadership opportunity to shape UWA's global research footprint and advance the University's international research ambitions.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research), the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (International Research) will provide strategic leadership of UWA's international research portfolio, driving research excellence, global collaboration and research impact across priority international markets, initially focused on the Indo-Pacific region.

You will:

• Lead the development and implementation of UWA's international research strategy, identifying opportunities for global research partnerships, international funding, strategic alliances and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Build and strengthen high-value partnerships with universities, industry, government agencies, funding bodies and research organisations across international jurisdictions.
• Provide executive leadership for international research governance, research integrity, compliance, partnership assurance, research security, intellectual property and data governance.
• Support the growth of research capability across international campuses and partnerships through researcher development, research leadership, collaborative networks and HDR supervision pathways.
• Drive international research investment and funding opportunities that enhance research performance, innovation, commercialisation and societal impact.
• Represent UWA in international research forums, government engagement activities and strategic partnerships, strengthening the University's global reputation and influence.

This highly visible role will suit a globally connected academic leader who can navigate complex international environments while balancing strategic growth with robust governance and risk management.

About you

• A doctoral qualification and an outstanding academic track record, with significant experience in senior research leadership roles within a university environment.
• Demonstrated success developing and executing international research strategies, research partnerships and transnational research initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of research governance, research integrity, ethics, compliance frameworks and risk management associated with international research collaborations.
• Proven ability to build influential relationships and engage effectively with universities, industry, government, funding agencies and international stakeholders across diverse cultural contexts.
• A track record of securing or enabling competitive research funding, supporting multidisciplinary research programs, and using research performance insights to drive strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.
