About the area

The Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Education (PVCIE) provides strategic leadership for Indigenous education, research and engagement across The University of Western Australia. Through the School of Indigenous Studies, the Berndt Museum and the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, the Office supports multidisciplinary teaching, research and community partnerships that advance Indigenous knowledge, health and wellbeing.

This opportunity sits within the Centre of Best Practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention (CBPATSISP), a nationally recognised centre that works collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families, communities and organisations to promote evidence-based, culturally responsive suicide prevention practices. The Centre is committed to empowering communities through research that is grounded in respect, partnership and positive impact.

About the opportunity

• Lead and contribute to high-quality research projects focused on Indigenous mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention.
• Produce impactful research outputs including peer-reviewed publications, reports, presentations and knowledge translation activities.
• Contribute to grant applications, ethics submissions, research design, data collection and analysis.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, researchers, clinicians, policymakers and partner organisations.
• Collaborate with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and other stakeholders to support research impact and translation.
• Present findings to community, government and sector stakeholders and contribute to the supervision and mentoring of students and community researchers.
• Support the delivery of funded research projects while ensuring compliance with ethics, governance and reporting requirements.

About you

• A PhD in public health, psychology, allied health or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience conducting research, including qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis, preferably in Indigenous mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, public health or suicide prevention.
• A strong track record of contributing to research outputs such as peer-reviewed publications, reports, conference presentations or knowledge translation activities.
• Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues, with the ability to build respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and project management skills, with the ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary research teams.
