  • Unique interdisciplinary environment: a rare opportunity to lead as Director of Nursing within a specialised Day Hospital primarily hosting podiatric surgery, while collaborating closely with the School and Podiatry team. Diverse roles and responsibilities: This role combines clinical and administrative leadership with academic, accreditation, research and teaching responsibilities.
  • Full-time appointment on a tenurable basis.
  • Base salary range: Level C, $144,143– $165,809p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

The School of Health and Clinical Sciences, within the College of Schools at The University of Western Australia, is a research-intensive academic organisation giving material expression to the belief that excellence in research underpins excellence in teaching and community partnerships. The School has a reputation for a strong evidence-based approach to research and education that is used for policy and practice development. The School aspires to be a school in which staff and students feel valued and supported in their individual and collective efforts to improve community health and wellbeing. The Department of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery is located in the School and offers a three year postgraduate Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and a five year Doctor of Podiatric Surgery degree along with Higher Degree by Research and coursework programs.

About the opportunity

  • Lead the successful operation and maintain accreditation of the UWA Day Surgery as the Director of Nursing, ensuring compliance with Department of Health requirements and maintaining high standards of patient care.
  • Provide operational and academic support at the University’s Day Hospital, a clinical training site for postgraduate students, facilitating real-time clinical learning in a day surgery environment.
  • Foster an innovative, safe, and supportive setting where students gain hands-on experience in perioperative, recovery, and ambulatory care, aligning clinical activities with the University’s teaching and research goals.

About you

  • AQF7 + Bachelor of Nursing with post-graduate equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role in a Peri-operative Suite.
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Extensive experience in senior clinical nursing and healthcare management roles.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and manage multidisciplinary teams.

Note: The provision of clinical activity is essential for this role. The post holder will be required to hold or be in the process of developing a speciality area of practice to be agreed with by the Head of Department.
