About the area
The Centre for Water and Spatial Science (CWSS) is a cross‑disciplinary research centre within the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment, spanning Earth and Oceans and Engineering. CWSS brings together expertise in hydrology, spatial science, environmental research, and data science to address Australia’s most pressing water, land, and urban sustainability challenges. The centre leads major national research projects across agriculture, urban heat, spatial planning, and environmental monitoring, using cutting‑edge geospatial analytics, remote sensing, AI, and high‑performance computing.
About the opportunity
- Support high‑impact agricultural and urban research projects through advanced geospatial analysis, modelling, and data processing.
- Work with satellite, aerial, and drone data, including LiDAR, hyperspectral, multispectral, and RGB sensors, and contribute to AI and deep learning applications.
- Collaborate with researchers and external partners, undertake fieldwork, and communicate analytical insights to diverse stakeholders.
About you
- A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in environmental science, geospatial science, data science, agriculture, or a related technical field.
- Strong skills in geospatial data analysis, including experience with Python and/or R and geospatial platforms such as QGIS, ArcGIS, or Google Earth Engine.
- Experience working with satellite, aerial, or drone imagery and spatial datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical findings clearly through visualisations, maps, and written reports.
- Well‑organised, adaptable, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
